Emre Tiftik is the Director of Sustainability Research at the Institute of International Finance (IIF), where his leadership is instrumental in shaping influential policy research initiatives. He is the originator and the main contributor of the IIF's Global Debt Monitor, delivering essential quarterly reports that dissect sectoral indebtedness trends across both developed and emerging markets. His expertise is further showcased as the lead author of the IIF Weekly Insight, where he provides sharp analyses of global financial markets through an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework.

In his expansive role, Emre oversees the production of the IIF's Quarterly Voluntary Carbon Markets Monitor, offering a deep dive into the evolving landscape of carbon trading. His tenure at the IIF since 2011 has been marked by significant contributions to literature on international capital flows, notably initiating the IIF’s monthly Capital Flows Tracker. He is also the go-to expert for engaging dialogues on climate finance and sovereign debt risks, and he skillfully directs the IIF’s long-established Sovereign Investor Relations workstream.

Before his engagement with the IIF, Mr. Tiftik garnered a broad spectrum of experience in both academic and policy-centric spheres. His analytical prowess was refined during his stints as a research assistant at the University of Maryland, College Park, and the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Turkey, as well as an analyst role at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security of Turkey. There, he played a pivotal role in the evaluation of grant projects under the European Union Delegation to Turkey.
