Esther Finnbogadottir

Head of Funding and Debt Management, Icelandic Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs

Esther Finnbogadóttir is the Head of Funding and Debt Management at the Icelandic Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs. She holds an MBA degree from Reykjavik University and a Cand. Oecon degree from University of Iceland. Prior to joining the ministry in 2013, Esther worked for the advisory company Analytica and its predecessor, the Risk Advisory Division at Askar Capital, mainly in risk, debt, and asset management advisory. In the beginning of 2007 Esther joined Straumur Investment bank, initially to build up an internal credit analysis function within the bank but later took over as Head of Credit Risk. After finishing her business degree in 1999, Esther started in the research department of Kaupthing, primarily as an equity analyst, but later took on the position of Head of Research. A few years later she moved on to Corporate Banking where she worked as a Senior Business Manager for Icelandic and international companies.


As from 2016, Esther has been a member of the board of directors of the Nordic Investment bank, whereof chair of the board 2020-2022. During 2008-2009 and as of 2014 she´s been a board member of FinIce, the Finnish Icelandic Chamber of Commerce, and as from 2022 chair of the board. She was deputy chairman of the Organisation of economists and business educated from 2010-2013 and a board member of the Institute of Business research 1997-1999.
